Travel Guide Bohol

The Philippines offers more than 7,000 islands to explore for the visiting tourists.  Bohol is one of the top tourist attractions of the country and holds countless travel packages for you to choose from.  Being the tenth largest island in the Philippines, Bohol is a first-class province located right in the Central Visayas Region. The main Bohol Island along with 72 small islands has three main attractions to offer.

This gem of an island is endowed with natural richness and beauty.  From its fertile land that has hills rolling gently around lavish forests and green meadows to the abundant marine life teeming with exquisite sea creatures, Bohol has always something for everyone.

Surrounding the main island, the 72 small islands and islets with palm-fringed coastlines are endowed with unsullied beaches and rustic rivers all perfect for scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, trekking, and cave exploration.

The Panglao Island located just southwest of TagbilaranCity, the capital of Bohol, is claimed to be one of the top ten diving spots in the world. Bohol boasts of a terrific undersea panorama teeming with abundant marine life and remarkable coral gardens – perfect for diving exploration. To cater the growing numbers of diving visitors from around the globe, several resorts are lining up the southern beaches.
The limestone foundation of the province and with more than 30 caves found all throughout  are the very reason why Bohol is acclaimed as the “Cave Country”.  Sudlon, the largest cave in Bohol, is the sanctuary of the biggest population of bats in the whole country.  Burrowed in a beautiful mountain environment, these bats emerge like vast clouds as dusk – a splendid sight to behold!
Bohol is also the home of the smallest primate of the world – Tarsier! Because of the tropical rainforests abundant in the area, Tarsiers are indigenous in Bohol.

And the top tourist attraction of Bohol is the world-renowned Chocolate Hills that had tourists flocking the province for years now.  These spectacular landscapes, numerous mounds of limestone formation, are one of the many wonders of nature found in the country.  There are about 1268 perfectly symmetrical, haycock-shaped hills that rise 30-40 meters above the ground spread along the towns of Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan.  These hills resemble chocolate bonbons at the onset of summer when their grass cover turns into brown, thus for the name.  Studies concluded that these hills were the results of the breaking down of the upper layers of the limestone formations and erosion processes millions of years ago.  Hence, this natural process caused the striking shapes of the Chocolate Hills.  Tourists will have a grand time watching these vast wonder through the view deck provided on the two hills that were developed.  Now developed with a youth hostel and a restaurant, numerous travel packages are up for grabs for the guests to fully enjoy the province of Bohol and its main attractions.
